Reactions have multiplied since the announcement of the death of the former mayor of Marseille

After Emmanuel Macron, Martine Vassal and Benoit Payan, current mayor of Marseille, other elected officials reacted this afternoon to the announcement of the death of Jean-Claude Gaudin.

Sébastien Barles, deputy mayor of Marseille responsible for ecological transition: “Jean-Claude Gaudin undeniably loved Marseille and the people of Marseille. With his disappearance, a little piece of our city is passing away. He embodied his city like no other, at the same time as the politics of world from before that we no longer want to see His longevity at the head of the city made him a monument that had to be debunked to put an end to it, with the wear and tear of power and its disastrous consequences. negligence and a system that has fractured Marseille [….] The man, and his legendary eloquence, was however full of humanity and empathy and his passion for the history of the Phocaean city was remarkable… Peace to his soul. Thoughts for his loved ones”.

François Bernardini, Mayor of Istres – Vice-President of the Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis: “I am very saddened by the news of the death of Jean-Claude Gaudin.
This local “figure” was intimately linked to the people of Marseillais and marked an era. Deeply attached to this city where he was born in the Mazargues district, he was its Mayor for 25 years. Beyond this function, I had to work alongside Jean-Claude Gaudin within the framework of our respective responsibilities within our political parties. He was a formidable opponent but he had a sense of honor and his word given. Although from different political sides, our discussions were always conducted with respect. His last mandate as president of a nascent Metropolis in pain, was a challenge that only he could take on to launch this institution, thanks to his experience, his political wisdom acquired over time and the respect that everyone had for him. The political world is in mourning today, Marseille is in mourning, it is losing one of its children. My thoughts are with his loved ones!”

Pierre Moze, national spokesperson for the Mouvement Des Progressistes, PACA regional delegate: “Here I want to pay tribute to the man who devoted a large part of his life to politics. For me, he was a formidable opponent but always very respectful in political debate. I therefore want here to salute the memory of a
man of great culture and convictions, different from mine but
respectable because republican […] I think of the people of Marseille, beyond political choices, who mourn the man who embodied their city for so long. To his loved ones, I offer my sincere condolences.”
