The southern half of will experience unpredictable weather on Thursday October 17. Météo-France has placed 13 departments on orange alert for thunderstorms, floods and rain-flooding.

Heavy rainfall will continue in France on Thursday October 17. As indicated in the latest Météo-France bulletin, published at the start of the day at 6 a.m., 11 departments have been placed on orange “rain-flood” alert for Thursday. These are Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Corrèze, Lot, Haute-, Loire, Aveyron, Tarn, Alpes-Maritimes, Lozère, Ardèche and . 5 departments are affected by orange vigilance for the risk of violent storms. These are Aude, Hérault, Lozère, Gard and Alpes-Maritimes. Aveyron, Lozère, Ardèche and Gard are also on orange alert for “floods”. In total, 13 departments are on orange alert this Thursday.

Due to the Cévennes episode which crosses France, significant amounts of precipitation are expected in the next 48 hours in the regions around the Mediterranean. More than 400 mm of rain could fall locally, according to several weather models, raising fears of the overflowing of several rivers in the southern half.

Seven departments kept on orange alert on Friday
