The Soignes Forest, this natural haven located to the south-east of Brussels, will be in the spotlight this Sunday, October 20 thanks to a multitude of activities organized to make it better known and better protect it, the Forest Foundation said on Tuesday. of Soignes.

Managed by the three Regions of the country, the Soignes forest (Natura 2000 zone) extends over an area of ​​more than 5,000 hectares. Each year, a day is dedicated to it to raise awareness among the population about its preservation and highlight its “rich biodiversity”.

This year, the event opens to the “Brabant forests” located in the surrounding area, while the Flemish part of this territory has just been named a national park, underlines the foundation.

Guided tours, demonstration of hunting horn and logging (i.e. the transport of the wood just after being cut to a road suitable for vehicles, in this case by horses), treasure hunt, cleaning operation or even mountain bike rides are included. particularly in the program of festivities.

Several family activities are offered, including fun workshops or a farmers’ market at Jezus-Eik. It will also be possible to meet forestry staff or discover nature at the Boitsfort racecourse. In Tervuren, behind the scenes of forest management will be revealed at the Arboretum.
