The former director of “Vedettes Madinina” died “following a long illness”. The news was confirmed by his partner, Senator Catherine Conconne, this Monday, October 14, 2024 at the beginning of the afternoon.

Eric Mongérand had retired from business for several years. Previously, he managed the maritime transport company “Vedettes Madinina”, before throwing in the towel following financial difficulties.

This former social sciences student at Science Po in could have been a philosophy professor, sociologist or director of Human Resources, but he preferred to embrace business.

Eric Mongérand, passionate about pictorial art, photography and music (notably Haitian Kompa), was also a humanist. On July 7, 2018, for example, he posted on his Facebook page a regret about the fate of the homeless (Without Fixed Home) in :

This is becoming worrying, too many people abandoned in their misery, with the street as their only refuge!

Raphaël Séminor, member of the Martinique Progressive Party, studied with Eric, the one he calls “My brother”. He salutes the level of culture of his late friend.

He was an intelligent and cultured man. He had an exceptional level of political analysis and was a leading observer, who was a member of the PPM [Parti Progressiste Martiniquais].

The man lived in the shadow of his last partner whose political career he carefully observed. It was also Catherine Conconne herself who confirmed her death this Monday, October 14, 2024.

It is with immense sadness that I announce the death of my partner, Eric Mongérand, following a long illness. His children, his family, his friends join me in this painful moment.
