The results of a new study conducted by the High Commission for Planning revealed that the majority of Moroccans, men and women, reject the idea of ​​equality in inheritance between men and women. In fact, more than eight out of ten Moroccans are opposed to this idea.

According to the results of the study, published on the occasion of National Women’s Day, more than 81% of the women surveyed expressed their opposition to the idea of ​​equality in inheritance, although they are the main beneficiaries of this reform.

The study also showed that Moroccan men reject any reform project aimed at establishing gender equality in inheritance, with a refusal rate exceeding 92%.

This study indicates that urban areas have the largest percentage of Moroccans opposed to equality in inheritance, with 89.2%, compared to 82.8% in rural areas.

The study also highlights that, regarding Moroccans’ perception of gender equality in general, 63.3% of Moroccan women believe that there is no gender equality in Morocco, an opinion shared by 54.8% of men.
