LIVE – Trial of RN parliamentary assistants: Marine Le Pen expected to take the stand

This Monday afternoon, Marine Le Pen will be on the stand for her first interrogation in the trial into suspicions of fictitious employment of RN parliamentary assistants.

The head of RN deputies is accused of embezzlement of public funds, concealment or complicity in this offense, and suspected of having set up a system to pay employees actually working for the party.

The stakes of the trial are high for the former presidential candidate. Since September 30 and until November 27, Marine Le Pen, 24 former MEPs from the National Front and the RN as a legal entity have appeared before the court, accused of embezzlement of public funds, concealment or complicity in this crime, and suspected of having set up or participated in a “centralized system” management of “envelopes” parliamentarians to pay employees actually working for the party. And this Monday, October 14, it is Marine Le Pen’s turn to be heard at the bar and to undergo her first interrogation.

Minute by minute

Marine Le Pen, who completely rejects the accusations, faces a prison sentence, a heavy fine and above all a penalty of ineligibility likely to hinder her presidential ambitions for 2027.

This Monday morning on TF1, the spokesperson for the far-right party Sébastien Chenu said he was preparing for the scenario of ineligibility, but assured that “if there was this sentence we would obviously appeal because it would be unfair (…). We do not believe in this sentence, but Marine Le Pen will put forward her arguments and she does so with a lot of serenity and then with the desire to turn the page”he assured.
