Bad news for anime fans One Piece : the latter will take a long unexpected break, right in the middle of the Egghead arc. Unfortunately, this is yet another example of the pressure that weighs on mangakas and creators in Japanese animation.
It’s official: for a few months, Luffy will have to sail the waves solo, while waiting to be able to reunite with the fans, who are impatiently awaiting the rest of his adventures. The anime One Piecebased on the manga by Eiichirō Oda, has announced a long break in its broadcast, effective from October 14, 2024.
When will the anime return? One Piece ?
Episode 1122, broadcast this Sunday October 13, 2024 and available on Crunchyroll in France, will be the last, for the moment. One Piece will come back a priori in April 2025with new episodes of the Egghead arc. The broadcast schedule will then be modified.

During this long six-month break, Toei Animation will offer a revisited version of one of the flagship arcs of the series: that of Fish-Man Island. New animations and a more contemporary visual style are promised to fans, including brand new opening and ending credits. The broadcast is scheduled from October 27, 2024 in Japan, on a weekly basis. No information has yet been communicated regarding the release online in France.
October 20, 2024a special episode, celebrating 25 years of the anime, will also air to honor the legacy of One Piece. For 30 minutes, the Straw Hat crew will be reunited in One Piece : Fan Letterand the story will be told from the point of view of a young girl, a great admirer of Nami.

For what One Piece is he on break?
No explanation was provided for this pause. But according to information from Variety, the creators would need “recharge their batteries”. A clarification which rekindles the debate around the work rate of mangakas and anime directors, who follow an almost inhuman schedule, with very few hours of sleep.
It must be said that One Piece has been running for 25 years, with a weekly broadcast that has never had a break, since 1999. Toei Animation’s production currently contains 25 story arcs, including the current one, Egghead.
Will this break impact the live-action series? One Piece the Netflix ?
A priori no, not at all. The anime is at a much more advanced narrative stage than the Netflix series. The first season of the latter thus covered the entire first arc, called East Blue. The highly anticipated season 2 will partly deal with the Alabasta saga. It will therefore still take a long time for the adaptation of One Piece by Netflix is not catching up with the anime, which is more than 20 story arcs ahead.
What about manga?
The anime is adapted from the famous manga by Eiichirō Oda, which follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, accompanied by his crew, in search of a mysterious treasure: One Piece. Volume 110, which will conclude the Egghead arc, will be available in France from November 1, 2024. This break will therefore allow the mangaka to get a head start on the anime, by continuing with the following arc: Erbaf.
