Built by a Chinese company a few years ago, the only metal bridge of Frandou in the rural commune of Komodou, located approximately 50 km from the urban center linking Kankan-Kérouané, gave way on the morning of this Saturday, October 12, 2024. C It is a trailer truck carrying several kilograms of food which would be the basis of this situation. An apprentice remains untraceable.
The axis linking Kankan-Kérouané is immobilized. Authorities and citizens remain powerless in the face of this situation. “We found that it was a trailer truck filled with bags of food that had passed over it. But fortunately it did not fall into the water but the apprentice who was on it is still nowhere to be found,” underlines Mamadi Minata Kaba, the secretary general of the rural commune of Komodou.
The breakdown of this bridge does not remain without consequences, particularly on commercial exchanges between these two cities. Already, a line of vehicles carrying goods and passengers has formed on both sides of the bridge. “Several vehicles are parked on both banks. You can neither leave Kérouané nor go this way via the Kankan section. A lot of people are there but we wonder what to do,” indicates, the secretary general.
Powerless given the extent of the damage, the municipal authorities are requesting state assistance for the reconstruction of this crossing infrastructure. “We have no way of resolving this situation now. We are looking for canoes to transport the baggage and citizens on both sides. But the State must come to the rescue otherwise the town of Kérouané will be cut off from the rest of the country. concluded the sub-prefectural authority.
