To kick off this sixth day of Top 14, Racing 92 left with Créteil’s four points against RC Toulon. In the other matches this Saturday, Bordeaux and Bayonne made short work of their opponents.
Where to start? This sixth day of Top 14 saw multiple twists and turns. If it started badly with a crazy boring Racing 92-RC Toulon… with a very late opening score (48th) and only one small try scored (22-6 victory for Ciel et blanc). Fortunately other teams played this Saturday and put on more of a show.
Facing the Perpignanais who have not yet won this season apart from Aimé Giral, the Bordelais enjoyed themselves. 31-0 at half-time, Matthieu Jalibert scored twice, before seeing two of his teammates also score two tries each. The young winger who replaced Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Enzo Reybier, scored points in the eyes of Yannick Bru, his coach. For his part, Romain Buros, building on his good start to the season, continues to crash (4th try this season).
For the second half, the Bordeaux opener gave himself another challenge: that of conceding a maximum of one try over the next 40 minutes. The objective explodes in two minutes, when Aucagne and Dupichot save the honor. What’s next? Bordeaux only continued, taking advantage in particular of the expulsion of Naqalevu after a huge head-to-head clash with Nicolas Depoortère. Final score 66-12.
La Rochelle on the verge of the bubble
This season, no team has managed to establish such a gap. With 54 points difference, UBB almost made us forget the slap received in the Top 14 final last season (59-3, 56 points difference).
In San Sebastian, Bayonne, which struggled during the last two relocations to Anoeta (defeats against Toulon and Pau), silenced the skeptics. Until the 70th minute, the teammates of Joris Segonds (author of 10 points this Saturday) led 30-0. In the end, La Rochelle “saved” honor and avoided the bubble. The last time a team scored a single point in a match was on January 6, 2024, when Stade Toulousain inflicted 45-0 on LOU.
To end this Saturday, Stade Toulousain (with Antoine Dupont on the bench) hosts ASM Clermont (at 9:05 p.m.). The sixth day of Top 14 will end on Sunday evening (9:05 p.m.), with a Lyon-Stade français.
