“Golden Owl”: details on its discovery revealed this weekend… before a sequel?

The creator of the “Golden Owl”, this treasure hunt solved on October 3 after a 31-year quest, has promised a video by Sunday.

It should shed light on the solutions to the puzzles, while thousands of “owls” hope to know the location of the discovery.

And talk about the future of this legendary treasure hunt…

The “Golden Owl” hasn’t finished hooting. Ten days after the end of this treasure hunt which lasted for 31 years, its co-founder is preparing to reveal some secrets. Michel Becker will in fact publish a video this weekend on the internet forum of this enigma. Enough to give thousands of enigma enthusiasts hope of finally knowing the place where the treasure was buried.

“I worked on it all day, I’m going to work on it all day tomorrow (Saturday, Editor’s note), and I hope that (Saturday) evening, or in the night from (Saturday) to Sunday, it will be OK, at later anyway on Sunday I will be finished So from there I can already give you a lot in this video.“, assured Michel Becker on Friday to some “owls”.

“Everything is not simple”

The one who had initially promised to explain himself within 48 hours justified this delay, citing the numerous “settings” at stake. Will the identity of the winner be known? Not sure: “There is a request for anonymity” on his part, said Michel Becker on Friday, adding that “everything is not simple”.

Digging up the replica allowed the lucky winner to win the famous owl, a sculpture weighing around ten kilos in precious metals, mainly silver, but also gold, encrusted with diamonds. Its value was initially estimated at one million francs (150,000 euros).

A continuation of the enigma?

The replica of the “Golden Owl” was buried in April 1993 in a location that had to be identified using 11 enigmas presented in the book “On the Trail of the Golden Owl”. Brief texts accompanying paintings: these are the only clues available to buyers of this book, originally sold for 95 francs (14.50 euros). The latest edition, in 2022, costs 37.95 euros. And in recent years, to submit a solution, namely geographic coordinates, you had to pay.

The creator of the enigma is an author of books on marketing, Régis Hauser, who took the pseudonym Max Valentin so as not to be harassed. He made rare public appearances, hiding his face. Michel Becker designed the sculpture, made by a goldsmith. He presented the enigma, in the television shows where he was invited, without knowing its resolution.

On Friday, Michel Becker cast doubt on the future of the golden owl: “I am dedicating myself to organizing this end of the hunt with dignity, which perhaps will not be one… Perhaps more things will happen, the owl may not have finished stealing something leave, all this is being prepared…”
