“Big scare”, “a big boom”, “big explosion”… A new one earthquake was felt in the Morbihan in the evening of Friday October 11, 2024. Such a phenomenon had already occurred several times in recent days.

For the fifth time in a week, the earth shook in Morbihan. A magnitude 2.9 event on theRichter’s scale was recorded by the sensors of the national seismicity information site BCSF Renass in the evening at 10:14 p.m. Friday October 11, 2024.

Morbihan: a new earthquake felt

“This event was detected automatically and needs to be confirmed by one of our analysts,” indicates the national seismicity information site on Saturday October 12, 2024 at 9:45 a.m. The epicenter of this new earthquake would be located at Slogging.

“The earthquake had a very shallow depth of 5 km and was widely felt in the area near its epicenter,” indicates the website volcanodiscovery.com.

Based on preliminary seismic data, the earthquake was not expected to cause significant damage, but it was likely felt by many people as slight vibrations in the epicenter area.

The earthquake was felt in and its surrounding area. But also in Grand-Champ, Auray, Sérent and Ploërmel.

A fifth earthquake in a week

The earthquake felt on the evening of October 11, 2024 is the fifth seismic event recorded in Morbihan in a few days.

In one week, several earthquakes were recorded by BCSF Renass sensors. This was the case on the afternoon of Friday October 4 on two occasions, early in the morning of Saturday October 5 and then on Sunday October 6.
