A ceremony filled with highlights
The opening ceremony was full of emotions. Actress Meryl Streep received a lifetime achievement award, singer Zaho de Sagazan also covered the song Modern Love by David Bowie in homage to the president of the jury Greta Gerwig who danced to it in the feature film Frances Ha by Noah Bambach. Camille Cottin, who was the mistress of ceremonies, also made a point of giving a speech where she deliberately undermined the patriarchy.
Juliette Binoche moved to tears
Juliette Binoche also came to give a speech in tribute to Meryl Streep and the actress who played in Godzilla was overcome with emotion as she paid tribute to him. “You are an international treasure, we can highlight your greatness as a dramatic actress in films like Journey to the End of Hell (…), but we risk forgetting that you are also one of the greatest actresses of cinema in films like Adaptation and Death suit him so well. Meryl Streep then wanted to comfort her by giving her a tender gesture. The director of barbienamely Greta Gerwig was also visibly very touched by the speech of the actress from The Passion of Dodin Bouffant, since viewers could see that she was also on the verge of tears when hearing Juliette Binoche.
