Searches carried out by the Quebec police had made it possible to find a slipper and a bracelet belonging to the young girl in a park on Saint-Quentin Island, where she was last seen. On October 8, a kayaker discovered her body near the island’s marina and notified authorities.

Alexandra’s disappearance sparked a wave of solidarity on social media, both in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Canada, after her mother, in tears, appealed for help in a video that went viral.
