“People who have followed our programming for several years know that we always offer a good mix between the big names and the smaller ones, there will be a lot of things to discover” and “more new voices than in other years”, underlined festival programming director Wim De Witte.

“The big names will obviously be there. This includes not only the opening film of the Berlinale, but also the Palme d’Or, ‘Anora’ by Sean Baker, and the Golden and Silver lions of the Festival from Venice: ‘The Room Next Door’ by Pedro Almodóvar and ‘Vermiglio’ by Maura Delpero.”

“But aside from that, there will be a lot of first-time directors. And of course, it’s always a little more daring, in the sense that these are films for which you don’t have as many references in advance . But I think there are few films that will disappoint people,” continues the head of programming.

Local talents will be present to present their new projects such as Dimitri Verhulst (“The Weeping Walk”), Christina Vandekerckhove (“Milano”), Ish Ait Hamou and Monir Ait Hamou (“BXL”), or Leonardo van Dijl ( “Julie Keeps Quiet”, which will represent Belgium in the preselection for the Oscar for best foreign film).
