Are you having some navigation issues on your Pixel 8 Pro since the deployment of Android 15? Rest assured, you are not alone.

As noted Android Authoritymany owners of Google’s old high-end mobile are experiencing bugs with gesture navigation since the new update.

Google knows

More precisely, it is the “back” function (invoked by sliding from the side edges of the screen) which seems somewhat finicky on the phone.

Whether on the right or left side, the gesture allowing you to return to the previous screen seems to work very randomly if we are to believe the testimonials collected on Reddit and on Google’s official help forums.

The problem seems to mainly affect the Pixel 8 Pro, but some Internet users claim to encounter the same problem on their Pixel 7 Pro or their Pixel 7a.

Sometimes, all navigation gestures (including returning to home by swiping from the bottom of the screen) seem blocked. Regardless, the bug is widespread enough that a Google engineer saw fit to investigate the issue.

If the search giant has not yet given any official solution, several testimonies explain having recovered a usable phone by deactivating then reactivating gesture navigation. To do this, nothing too complicated.

  • Open the app Settings
  • Go to the section System
  • Choose Navigation mode
  • Switch to “Three-button navigation »
  • Switch back to “Gesture navigation »
  • Reboot your phone

In many cases, this simple manipulation seems to solve the problem. The most surprising thing about this story is that the bug seems to have been known for months, since a publication on Reddit already mentioned it last May when the beta version was being tested. For those who have not managed to resolve the problem with the manipulation below, we must hope that Google will finally take the subject seriously with the release of Android 15 in final version.

This bug seems surprisingly similar to the one Apple encountered with its iPhone 16 Pro. We have to believe that calibrating the sensitivity of touch screens will be a pain in 2024.
