The alert has just been triggered. While the authorities have already been monitoring the level of rivers in Seine-et- for several hours, Wednesday October 9, 2024, at 4 p.m., our department has just been placed on red alert for risk of flooding.

The Grand Morin could rise quickly

The red vigilance classification is the consequence of the presence of the Storm Kirk which brings abundant rains to waterlogged soils.

Rain is expected to fall continuously until the middle of the night from Wednesday to Thursday. This phenomenon will inevitably lead to flooding.

The expected amounts of rain could cause a strong to exceptional flood on the Grand Morin.

Vigicrues

The river level could rise rapidly from Wednesday evening.

The last few weeks having been very wet, the watercourses should react quickly to this rain. “All of the region’s watercourses should therefore be on the rise in the coming days with rapid rises in certain sectors on Wednesday or Thursday,” according to Vigicrues.

According to Météo , the total rainfall observed in our territory is currently between 15 and 30 mm. But we wait between 60 and 80 mm by tomorrow.

The Seine-et-Marne prefecture reports that the fastest increases in Pommer are expected in the evening and during the night. In this sector, the peak of the flood should be observed on Thursday. In the sector of Couilly-Pont-aux-Dames“levels will be rising all day tomorrow Thursday,” warns the prefecture.

In La Ferté-Gaucher, we are preparing for this new flood

The municipalities near Grand Morin have activated their municipal protection plan and are starting to take precautionary measures to limit the effects of the flood and protect their residents.

In La Ferté-Gaucher, barriers have been placed near the streets that are usually flooded. The city will maintain lighting tonight “on sensitive points”.

As for affected residents, or in anticipation of flooding, they can find refuge in the Henri-Forgeard room which will be open.

Public transport disrupted by floods

Since 3:30 p.m. this Wednesday, the axis between Marles-en-Brie and Coulommiers on line P has been at a standstill. As for buses, Ile-de-France Mobilités indicates that “due to the floods, disruptions are expected in the sectors of Pommeuse, Guérard, Crécy-la-Chapelle, La Ferté Gaucher, Condé-Sainte-Libiaire, Couilly -Pont-aux-Dames and in the Petit Morin Valley.”
