So be careful, it’s not going to please everyone. A recent study carried out by WhichBingo, in collaboration with a team of psychologists, revealed interesting results on the intelligence quotient (IQ) of gamers.
More than 1,000 players participated in this study, taking a specially designed IQ test to assess their mental abilities in 4 areas: verbal communication, mathematics, logic and visual reasoning.
So I suggest we analyze all of this a little ^^.
First, here are the Top 3 games with the smartest players
- League of Legends : Average IQ of 120.4
- Black Myth: Wukong : Average IQ of 119.8
- Baldur’s Gate 3 : Average IQ of 117.9
Not bad… So the smarter you are, the more you will be a fan of these games. Then, Counter-Strike and Elden Ring players complete this top 5 of the smartest gamers according to this study.
Then after that, it slowly drops until we reach the games appreciated by people who have an IQ close to average (which is 100, I remind you): GTA V, Sea of Thieves, Call Of Duty…
And finally, it was the players of Rocket League then FC 24 / Fifa who obtained the lowest scores, with an average IQ of around 90 points. It’s not going to help the reputation of car and football fans ^^. Roooh, it’s okay, I’m kidding.
All this obviously can be explained very simply… the more complex the game, the higher the average IQ of its players. So games with complex competitive mechanics and an intricate meta universe require more mental effort to master and enjoy.
The study also compared the average IQs of players according to their preferred platform:
- PC: Average IQ of 114.1
- PlayStation: Average IQ of 111.0
- Xbox: Average IQ of 105.9
- Mobile/Tablet: Average IQ of 99.9
PC gamers seem to have a slight intellectual lead, but the difference isn’t huge between the major consoles.
Finally, contrary to stupid stereotypes, the study found that female gamers have, on average, a slightly higher IQ than male gamers:
- Women: Average IQ of 107.9
- Men: Average IQ of 105.8
Et bim ! Who run the world ? Girls évidemment !
Be careful though, this study does not suggest that playing certain games will increase your intelligence, but rather that certain types of games can attract players with “special” cognitive abilities. So if you’re super horny, there’s no point in making your nerves bleed in League of Legends. Because as Jean-Michel, Yoda’s cousin, said: “Suffering is the portal to the abyss: suffering leads to despair, despair leads to abandonment, abandonment… leads to annihilation.”And we don’t want that, do we?
Let us remember, however, that IQ is only one measure among others of intelligence and that all games, regardless of their classification, each offer their own benefits, so continue to choose the games that make you love it. Additionally, playing video games is beneficial for the brain and cognitive functions, regardless of the game you choose, so go for it!
