Did you also read ‘The Housemaid’ – or ‘De Hulp’ in Dutch – by Freida Mcfadden in one go? Or are you simply a mega Sydney Sweeney fan? Then we have good news for you: the wildly popular thriller ‘The Housemaid’ is being turned into a film starring the ‘Anyone But You’ actress!

We have known for a while that ‘The Housemaid’ would be made into a film, although nothing was known about the direction or the cast. Now Lionsgate Motion Picture Group confirms that the roles have been divided and the production house also reveals who we can expect in the film of the same name!

Masterful duo

None other than Sydney Sweeney will take on the lead role of Millie. But her co-star, who will play the role of Nina, is also known: ‘Mamma Mia’- en ‘Mean Girls’-actrice Amanda Seyfried!

“The great thing about these two actresses is that they can both be mysterious, nuanced and extremely good at creating characters that don’t give everything away from the first moment,” said Erin Westerman, co-president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group .

The production of the film is in the hands of Paul Feig, who previously directed ‘A Simple Favor’ with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, as well as ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘The Heat’. In short: the ideal person to make a film about two strong women!

The Housemaid

‘The Housemaid’ by Freida Mcfadden tells the story of young Millie. After a difficult period in her life, she found it difficult to find a job. Until she is suddenly hired by a charming and wealthy couple as a domestic helper.

Nina and Andrew Winchester and their daughter Cecilia seem to be the perfect family, with the perfect house. Although nothing is as it seems at the Winchesters and Millie soon discovers that her new employer has even more secrets than herself.

Filming for ‘The Housemaid’ has not yet started. It is not yet clear when we can expect the film to appear in theaters, although the target date is more likely to be 2026.
