Renault reveals the prices of the “cheap” version of the new R5. The small battery allows costs to be lowered with an entry ticket of €27,990 excluding bonuses. But orders are not yet open.

Renault has logically opened the door to orders for the Renault 5 during the open days which are taking place this week in the Renault network. But the manufacturer has taken care to only leave the door open to the high-end versions, namely those equipped with the large 52 kWh battery. For smaller budgets who would like a less expensive R5 just to tour in and around town, you will have to wait. The small 40 kWh battery is not yet in the catalog, but Renault still wanted to reveal its prices this Monday morning. Please note that orders are not yet open for this version. No need, therefore, to go to open days specifically for this variation which already has the Citroën e-C3 in its sights. To do this, the Renault 5 must be aggressive on the first level of finish. And this is the case with a 120 hp R5 Evolution which starts at €27,990. But is the difference really sufficient compared to a 150 hp R5 Evolution, the price of which we do not yet know?

At the time the R5 was designed, Renault was already talking about an electric car for €20,000. The manufacturer quickly realized that the mission would be impossible, while investors and the market were pushing for increased profitability. Juggling between ever-increasing margins and contained prices is a difficult exercise. Renault has chosen not to cut prices too much in the 40 kWh version.

Since this version is not yet available for order, we will avoid risky bets on the final customer price since we still do not know the amount of the bonus for 2025. If it falls to €3,000, that would make an R5 at €24,990, neck and neck with the Citroën C3 which still seems more habitable than the little one with the diamond. The two have the common point of a fairly close autonomy: 320 km for the C3, “up to 300 km” for the R5 EV40.

It will then remain to know the price of the cheapest of all: the “Five”. This very stripped-down 95 hp version will arrive next spring with a price already confirmed below €25,000. It will be a question of knowing to what extent Renault was able to lower prices to attract customers looking for a cheap and exclusively urban electric car, since this Five will not be entitled to direct current DC charging.
