Météo-France places three departments on orange rain-flood vigilance this Monday, October 7. Significant amounts of rain are expected in the evening between Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Occitanie.
Take out the umbrellas. Significant rainfall is expected in the south-east of the country this Monday, October 7, according to Météo-France forecasts. The agency places three departments (Gard, Lozère and Ardèche) on orange rain-flood vigilance in its map published at 6 a.m.
This event is scheduled for 10 p.m. and is expected to continue until Tuesday morning. Heavy rainfall (up to 200 mm in twelve hours) is expected in the region.
A “fairly large-scale” rain-storm degradation
This precipitation will be linked to the onset of a Cévennes episode during the day of this Monday. Apart from the bad weather expected in the Cévennes, sometimes strong thunderstorms will slide between the South-West and the North-East in the afternoon.
“Pluvio-stormy deterioration on a fairly large scale and unusual for the month of October (except for the Cévennes regions) in France,” notes Météo-France in its bulletin.
Many departments are also placed on yellow alert for thunderstorms. A level which could be revised upwards during the day, warns the institute.
The intense rains should then slide into the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region on Tuesday, thus becoming a Mediterranean episode. Heavy rain will also be expected in Corsica.
