Go Herman, go!

Herman De Croo, now 87 years young, has shared a striking video in which he campaigns for his son – who desperately wants to become mayor of Brakel. He did this in Flemish with a good dash of Gen Z language, a pinch of teenage girl babble and something that reminds us of South African:

Salad.
Slay or salad?
Hi besties,
I’m the G.O.A.T. van de Liberalen
and I’m spilling the tea today.
October 13 are the municipal elections.
Slay
A local government is really main character energy
Many of their decisions hit different because they directly affect the lives of the residents.
Local parties and their representatives understand the assignment and shape the daily lives of their citizens.
That’s why it’s so important that everyone participates and thinks about their vote.
No chap.
And while you’re there, it’s really stupid to vote for the liberals.
In other words: voting this year is very demure, very mindful.
Bon, ate and left no crumbs.
Period.

So, a multilingual message. Or something like that. One that may be difficult to understand for ordinary Flemish people. That is why we will translate them into understandable Flemish for you:

Lettuce (we don’t know whether Herman is referring to arugula, iceberg lettuce or another type of lettuce)
‘Your outfit looks great’, or let’s say?
I am the greatest and best liberal the world has ever known
Let me explain something here, see!
October 13 are the municipal elections
Your outfit is great.
Local government is what concerns me
Many of their decisions affect you in a new way, because they directly affect the lives of the inhabitants.
Local authorities and their representatives have successfully completed their tasks and shape the daily lives of their citizens.
That’s why it’s so important that everyone participates and thinks about their vote.
No lie.
And while you’re there, it’s a pain in the ass to vote for the liberals.
In other words, voting this year is very subdued and thoughtful.
Well, I have delivered another impressive job.
Punt.
