On the occasion of the promotion of the film “Lee” in which she plays Lee Miller, who broke conventions to establish herself as a great photojournalist of the 20th century, Kate Winslet was the guest of “C à vous” on France 5 , last night. During the interview, discomfort arose between the actress and Pierre Lescure following a question.
“To portray this free and stubborn woman who made fun of the gaze of others, you assume wrinkles and dark circles to show her physical and psychological fatigue. You strip yourself without hiding some curves. It is a deliberate choice which sometimes went to against the film crew’s suggestions?” he said on set.
“It was to show who she was. She was very free with her body. It was my job to be as close to who she was, as close as possible. It’s very interesting that you ask that question because , forgive me, but would you ask this same question to a man, to an actor?” Kate Winslet then asked.
She added: “It’s true that it’s an interesting conversation because a lot of women want to have this conversation about being truthful, being authentic and expressing a positive message. But for me it’s so fascinating that rarely would my male counterparts be asked this kind of question!”
“But it’s true that it was very important for me to play Lee. It was the most important privilege of my life to be able to play a character with so much power,” concluded the actress on the set of “C to you” on France 5.
