Google is preparing a big change on YouTube

Starting this month, Google will change the length of Shorts on YouTube. To offer more expression time to content creators, the Californian company will triple their duration.

YouTube Shorts position themselves as direct competitors of TikTok. However, until now, these cannot exceed a video duration of one minute, when the Chinese company offers the possibility of uploading videos of up to 10 minutes, or even up to 60 minutes with the upload. On Youtube, until now, any video longer than 60 seconds is considered a long video. This will be true until October 15, 2024.

On this date, Google will make a big change by moving all new videos under three minutes to Shorts. This will be true for those which will be in vertical format as well as those which will be in square format. The Mountain View company will also rework its recommendation system in the coming months to highlight these new productions.

But that’s not all since new features (inspired by the competition) will appear. It will thus be possible to use the Remix function to create a template from a video that you like. The goal is to be able to follow trends and put your personal touch on elements that work. Finally, the Shorts interface will also evolve. As you can see in the example below, it will be a little more refined to interfere less with the content of the video.
