With a hat trick and two assists, Kévin Denkey seems to be back at Cercle Brugge. However, not everyone was satisfied with the Association’s striker.
Everyone expected that Kévin Denkey would leave Cercle Brugge this summer, but that ultimately turned out not to be the case. It caused a dip among the Togolese, but now he is back again.
Denkey did not score for a month, in his last three games he shook the net three times. Against Sankt Gallen, Denkey almost had a foot in every Cercle goal with three goals and two assists.
Somers had some criticism of Denkey
Yet Denkey also caused some frustration for captain Thibo Somers. The striker himself kicked at goalkeeper Ati-Ziti instead of handing the ball to Somers. The captain would have liked to score himself.
“I understand Kévin, but the opposite is also necessary,” Somers said afterwards The Newspaper. “He has to unlearn this and he admitted that and promised that he will do it differently next time,” Somers added.
Somers was also not happy with his replacement fifteen minutes before the end. He had wanted to finish the match and therefore score himself, which he had not been able to do since August 22. “It has already been discussed and I respect the coach’s decision,” Somers concluded.
