The strike of education assistants at the Val d’Élorn college, supported by some of the teachers, continues in Sizun. Determined to recover the half position lost at the start of the September school year, school life staff are maintaining pressure on academic inspection. In particular by organizing, this Friday, October 4, a “dead college” day. The idea: ask all parents who can to keep their child at home. Parents who are then invited, from 5:30 p.m., to come and talk on site with the strikers.

Middle school students “not safe”

In a letter addressed to the editorial staff this Wednesday, some of them expressed their support for the movement. “With one less supervisor, our children are no longer physically and psychologically safe. Educational assistants are professionals who play a crucial role in creating a safe and peaceful learning environment.” And to point out a specificity of the Val d’Élorn college: its boarding school, closed since the beginning of the week. “In addition to having to manage the day, two of the supervisors take turns monitoring and supporting our interns,” inform the parents of the students.

Laëtitia Cojan, from Locmélar, is the mother of one of these 17 children who live there during the week. “We are not talking about a high school boarding school, but a college boarding school. The youngest, in sixth grade, are 11 years old. They are coming out of CM2! However, at that age, we need attention and support. The supervisors take care of homework help, aches and pains, etc. Everything that other parents deal with on a daily basis. And as it stands, this is no longer possible.”

Stuck situation

In solidarity with the movement, Laëtitia Cojan also believes that her daughter is “no longer safe”. And the letters from other parents provide proof. On Monday, they sent their children to college, thinking, after receiving a message from the academy inspector, that the establishment would operate normally. “Result of the day: two injured, an intern ran away, with a trip to the gendarmerie, and children who were able to go out as they wanted…”.

Despite Tuesday’s meeting in with departmental representatives of National Education, the situation is still blocked. But parents are still hoping for the recruitment of a new supervisor.
