Still a little too strong for Northampton, the Leinster qualified for the Champions Cup final despite some cold sweats at the end of the meeting. A victory in the semi-final which allows the Irish to establish a new record in the competition… which Toulouse could catch up with in the event of a victory in the semi-final against Harlequins.

Leinster in the Champions Cup final, a record

Leinster and Stade Toulouse have not finished beating each other, as they say somewhat familiarly. An expression coming from the lexical field of hunting, and which seems particularly appropriate to describe the rivalry existing on the wider European scene of this Heineken Cup which has become Champions Cup in recent years.

Thus, and if the Rouge et Noir still have a head start in terms of the number of victories in the premier competition (5 titles against 4 for Leinster), Leo Cullen’s men, by qualifying for the 8e end of their storyestablished a new participation record at this stage of the Champions Cup.

Record within reach of Toulouse against Harlequins

So far, Leinster has won 4 finals, lost 3, and won 8e by overcoming Northampton. A ratio slightly lower than that of Toulouse who have 5 titles for 2 silver medals.

Which, for the most learned mathematicians, makes a total of 7 finals for Toulouse. By winning their Champions Cup semi-final against Harlequins, the reigning French champions would therefore equal the Leinster finals record.

The attendance record established at Croke Park (82,300) will, however, be untouchable despite all the will of the spectators present at the Stadium and its 33,150 seats.
