Discover the main lessons from the 36th day of Ligue 2 with Auxerre who are on the rise, Troyes who are sinking further and further and Brahimi who is allowing Caen to still believe in it.
The best: Auxerre is almost in Ligue 1
Only the goal difference is still in the way of the AJA. Led by Lassine Sinayoko and Ado Onaiwu, Auxerre signed their 20th victory of the season this Saturday against Paris FC. With 70 points, the Icaunais are six points ahead of Angers with two days remaining and a largely favorable goal difference (+33 against +13). In other words, only a real catastrophe prevents the AJA from officially celebrating its return to Ligue 1 barely a year after leaving it. The trip to Amiens next Friday should be an opportunity to end the suspense… and get their hands on the French champion trophy.
The flop: Troyes on the brink of the abyss
It’s a scene that many people feared in Troyes. This Friday, while ESTAC was hooked by Valenciennes and maintenance in Ligue 2 was slipping away, Trojan supporters broke down. Sending numerous smoke bombs onto the pitch of the Stade de l’Aube, they caused an initial interruption of the match and then its definitive end. The Aube players did not hesitate to send these smoke bombs back to the sender as if to show their dismay. Which should seal the fate of the Manchester City subsidiary, on the verge of experiencing a second relegation in two years.
The best player: Brahimi keeps Caen in the race
If fate seems decided for first place, and Saint-Etienne and Angers will fight to the end for second, places in the play-offs will be expensive. While Rodez and Paris FC fell this weekend, Caen performed very well thanks to Bilal Brahimi. The midfielder’s second goal this season came at a crucial moment as it allowed Stade Malherbe to win by the narrowest of margins against Laval and come back to within two points of Rodez and just one of PFC, respectively fourth and fifth in the ranking.
The key numbers
4
On the QRM pitch, Dunkirk sought a fourth victory this season away from home (1-2). A crucial success for the northern club, which almost secures its place in Ligue 2 for next season.
12
Beaten in Grenoble (2-1), Concarneau lined up a 12th match without a victory in the league. A result which sounds the death knell for the hopes of remaining in Ligue 2 for the Breton club, which will accompany Valenciennes and QRM in National next season.
15
Author of a double during the victory of Amiens on the lawn of Bastia, Louis Mafouta has now reached 15 goals this season in Ligue 2. Which makes him the second top scorer in the championship behind Alexandre Mendy (20 goals) .
