There are fifteen of them, nine men and six women, to apply without saying so for the vice-presidency of the States on the Republican “ticket”. A thankless position in itself, but which could put the lucky one into orbit for 2028.

From our correspondent in Washington,

“The next vice president of the United States will be chosen… by patriotic Republicans like you!”Donald Trump wrote to his supporters. “Who do you want to see by my side when we take back the White House? I need to make this decision quickly, so take my official survey…and let me know what YOU think!”

Now almost assured of his nomination as the Republican Party’s candidate in the presidential election, Trump must choose a running mate before the party’s convention, which will be held on July 15 in Milwaukee. The message to his activists only accelerated speculation. There are already many candidates. If elected, Trump will theoretically only be able to serve one term, and his vice-president will occupy a prime position for his succession. At least fifteen contenders are frequently mentioned by the American media. Many have already made the trip to Palm , Florida, where they were received at Mar-a-Lago.

If Trump likes publicity, he also knows that nothing beats building suspense, particularly in an election which will pit the same two candidates against each other as in the previous one. As in the reality TV show where he played the role of decision maker, The Apprentice, he carefully keeps his intentions secret. “There is not a person in politics who does not want the positionTrump said in March in an interview on Newsmax, including among Democrats. If I wanted to, I could choose a Democrat, a liberal, whoever I wanted.”
