At least 9 people were killed following violent explosions in a camp for displaced people in the suburbs of Goma, capital of the North Kivu province, this Friday. Several serious injuries were also recorded, arousing the anger of many people. This situation follows the fighting between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebels supported by the Paul Kagame regime.

It is in this context that Doctor Dénis Mukwege called on the international community to uphold the basic principles of the Nations Charter and international humanitarian law in the African Great Lakes region.

“It is urgent to put an end to repeated aggressions and Rwandan interference in the DRC and to move from empty words and façade condemnations to the adoption of sanctions. We urge international institutions and States to suspend their military assistance in Rwanda as long as Kigali supports the M23 and has not withdrawn its troops from Congolese territory”, pleaded Dénis Mukwege in a message broadcast this Friday, May 3, 2024 on his account

For the winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, humanity cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the crimes committed by Paul Kagame’s regime in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo

“The world cannot remain blind to the mass crimes committed against vulnerable people by the criminal regime of Kigali in eastern DRC and must react without further delay to stop the infernal cycle of violence and impunity”, challenged the former presidential candidate of the Republic, Dénis Mukwege.

The toll from this Friday’s explosions could rise given their consequences. All the injured are taken care of. Meanwhile, the FARDC and the M23 blame each other for these fatal shots.
