The engagement of the best designer in the history of F1 by the Silverstone team gives a lot of hope, but we know that its impact will probably not be immediate.
Newey will not join Aston Martin before next spring, at the end of his notice period with Red Bull, and if he will be in charge of designing the car that meets the new regulations for 2026, a transition phase will undoubtedly be necessary before he finds his feet in this new environment.
The Newey effect will not be immediate
Aston Martin will provide new tools to Newey, including a brand new wind tunnel, and all of this will have to be calibrated to be fully operational, probably in 2027.
Fernando Alonso will then be 45 years old and he is clear-sighted about the fact that the agenda is not in his favor even if he will do everything in his power to maintain his driving at the highest level.

Endurance with Aston Martin?
Alonso’s current contract runs until the end of 2026 and could still be extended if he remains competitive, but he himself realizes that he will probably have to come to terms with it.
“After 2026, I will remain linked to Aston Martin because I want to be part of this adventure, he assures. I will play a role in F1 in one way or another, and then I could defend the colors of the brand in another discipline.
We obviously think of endurance where the Spaniard, former WEC champion and double winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota, would take the wheel of the new Hypercar Valkyrie entered in the world championship as well as in IMSA from next season.
