This day will mark the return of trade union organizations. The CGT, Solidaires, FSU and youth organizations are calling for a strike and demonstration this Tuesday to demand the repeal of the pension reform and an increase in wages. We take stock of the disruptions to be expected as part of this mobilization.

“Normal” rail traffic

The CGT and Sud Rail (Solidaires) are calling on railway workers to strike. TGV train traffic will nevertheless be “normal” on Tuesday for the day of social mobilization in favor of salaries and pensions, while the circulation of certain regional trains (TER, Transilien) and certain Intercités trains could be “slightly” disrupted, SNCF announced on Sunday.

“As part of the national inter-professional social movement, SNCF Voyageurs train traffic will be almost normal on Tuesday October 1,” the railway company said in a press release. Traffic will thus be “normal” on TGV links while “some traffic could be slightly disrupted on certain regional trains (TER, Transilien) as well as certain Intercity links”, according to SNCF. Line-by-line forecasts are due Monday.

In Île-de-, the CGT-RATP has filed a strike notice from Monday 8 p.m. until Wednesday 7 a.m. The RATP has not yet specified which lines are affected but journeys are recommended to reach the Stade de France, on the occasion of the Mylène Farmer concert.

Mobilization expected in schools

Schools are also faced with this call for mobilization. Some teachers will mobilize “to their wages, their retirements, to finally obtain positions and the end of the shock of knowledge,” indicates a press release from the CGT Education. The FSU, the main teaching union, is also calling for mobilization to obtain additional resources.

In primary classes, parents were, in principle, notified on Friday of the absence of teachers. On the other hand, in middle and high schools, teachers are not obliged to declare themselves on strike in advance.

The early childhood sector will also be affected, announces the CGT, which recalls that “several reports and journalistic investigations highlight the danger represented by the commodification of the sector”. The people mobilized this Tuesday demand “the immediate increase in salaries”.

179 gathering places

This first back-to-school mobilization could, however, prove to be quite weak, a union source told AFP on condition of anonymity, referring to “feedback from the field (which) is not good”. On Sunday, the CGT identified 179 gathering places (for comparison, the union had more than 200 on May 1 and 250 during the last day of mobilization against pension reform in June).

The Parisian demonstration, which will set off from Place Denfert-Rochereau at 2 p.m. towards the Bastille, was initially scheduled to coincide with the presentation of the budget to the Assembly, which was ultimately postponed. It will take place just before the Prime Minister’s general policy speech, at 3:00 p.m., which will set the course for his policy while many social issues (unemployment insurance, employment of seniors, in particular) remain unresolved.
