It was the poster for revenge. After the humiliation inflicted by Toulouse in the Top 14 final (59-3) against the two teams met again this Sunday, September 29, 2024 for the fourth day of Top 14. The meeting quickly turned sour…

Stade Toulousain ended up completely disarmed (12-16) by UBB at home. The match had started ideally, but the Union was able to take advantage of a numerical superiority in the first period to take a lead and manage the match afterwards, helped by a match point missed by Thomas Ramos. Detailed summary of a bitter confrontation.

An ideal start, but vengeful Bordeaux residents

“Stade Toulousain or not Stade Toulousain, we are waging war on them” we heard roaring from the Bordeaux side. Like a rallying sign and the remains of a trauma to heal. The action is very quickly there as Paul Graou thinks to score in a corner (5e). However, the video shows that the ball was not flattened and that Ugo Boniface committed an offside charge. He comes out on a yellow card. Toulouse continues, taking advantage of the penalty that follows and the numerical inferiority of the opponent. A jump from Romain Ntamack unlocks space, Thomas Ramos rushes and allows Blair Kinghorn to mark along the opposite line (7e). Thomas Ramos transforms. The Stadium is jubilant, but not for long.

Matthieu Jalibert then reduced the gap with a penalty (15e). Blair Kinghorn then leaves to join the suspended bench for a high tackle, just as Ugo Boniface returns. In turn, the Bordelais took advantage of the numerical inferiority to restart the match by scoring in quick succession. First by Louis Bielle-Biarrey (19th) on a beautiful collective action and a fake pass which erases Ramos. Then by Maxime Lucu (22ᵉ) who benefits from a nice pass from the previous marker. Half-time score: 7 to 13.

An uncertain outcome until the last second

Without Antoine Dupont or Jack Willis, Toulouse are unrecognizable. The Bordelais fail to widen the gap by Enzo Reybier, thrown into touch at the last second by Romain Ntamack (60e).Then comes a real emotional roller coaster for the Red and Black supporters. The Bordeaux pack is penalized in scrum at 22 meters. This may be the turning point of the match. Romain Ntamack chooses the penalty a few steps from the line. The stadium pack pushes and Peato Mauvaka marks the liberating attempt in force (70e). Thomas Ramos only has to convert for the team to get back in front… But his shot is deflected.

A penalty from Mateo Garcia (75e) buries Occitan hopes a little more. Dimitri Delibes thinks he scores the saving try after the siren, but the referee whistles for the forward. The last action of the match is played on a penalty at the edge of the sesame. The tackles multiply as the Toulouse residents approach the line. Toulouse strength, Bordeaux bends and does not break. After the humiliation at the end of last season, Bordeaux saved its honor.

The next match at Stade Toulousain will be Saturday October 5, at 9:05 p.m., at the Olympic.
