RSEQ: The Rouge et Or remains perfect in front of 17,143 spectators (football)

The University Rouge et Or overthrew the Concordia Stingers 34 to 10 in front of a crowd of 17,143 spectators, Sunday afternoon at PEPS.

The Rouge et Or thus remains one of the last five perfect teams this season in Canada. What’s more, at the ticket offices, this is the third time in as many matches that the Rouge et Or has welcomed more than 17,000 fans.

The offensive play of the game came at the start of the second half, when Émeric Boutin caught a 65-yard pass from Arnaud Desjardins to score his first career touchdown with the Rouge et Or. With the score at 20 to 9 at that point , the Rouge et Or never looked back afterwards.

And for a second game in a row, the Rouge et Or defense did not allow a touchdown to the opponent. After only two points last week against Sherbrooke, Marc Fortier’s unit only conceded three field goals and a red to the Stingers. Yoann Miangue had his best career game with 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for losses.

Benjamin Nadon and Anton Haie intercepted quarterback Olivier Roy once each. While it was a career first at the university level for Nadon, the veteran Haie also blocked two passes aimed in his direction.

Jérémie Ouellette reached the end zone twice to bring his total to five this season (one passing, four on the ground).

Olivier Cool was deprived of a touchdown for the first time this season, but still led both teams with seven catches for 111 yards. On the ground, Kalenga Muganda had his best game in the regular season with 101 yards on 15 carries.
