Mauritania: celebration of engineering day

Mauritanian architectural engineers celebrated Tuesday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing, Town Planning and Regional Development, Engineering Day.

The event was opened by the Minister of Housing, Town Planning and Regional Planning, Sid’Ahmed O. Mohamed, in the presence of certain ministers, other officials and Mauritanian architects interested in the urban planning engineering.

The minister, in his opening speech, said that Mauritania is experiencing unprecedented growth in the field of town planning and construction.

He added that the government worked to launch major projects for the realization of which architects played a key role in their design and control.

In this context, the minister cited the construction of the new headquarters of the national assembly, that of the constitutional council, the ministerial complexes, the new university city in Nouakchott, the national school of administration, judiciary and journalism, the artisanal village, the school of petroleum techniques, energy and gas, the higher institute of digitalization, the higher school of commerce in addition to the large hospitals of Sélibaby, Aioun, Aleg and Tidjikja.

Ould Mohamed promised to maintain permanent consultation with architectural engineers and to take into account their proposals for major projects so that they comply with the requested criteria.

The national engineering day is organized under the theme: “promising horizons for urban planning engineering in Mauritania”.

It was marked by certain activities, including presentations and open discussions in front of experts and engineers, the first theme of which was: “architectural engineering, its challenges and its perspectives”.

At the end of the day, participants in the discussions presented the results in addition to proposals, solutions and recommendations in the field.

The organizers organized Tuesday evening, in front of the convention center, avenue Mokhtar O. Daddah, an architectural exhibition which was an opportunity for an exchange and awareness raising between architectural engineers and citizens on the importance of architecture.
