Held this Friday (27), the official weigh-in of the UFC went smoothly. Among the 28 fighters scheduled to take action on Saturday’s card, only one athlete failed the scale: Argentine Ailin Perez.

On the other hand, Renato Moicano e Benoit protagonists of the main fight of the show, fulfilled their obligations and confirmed the duel between them, valid for lightweight (70 kg).

Coming from three consecutive victories, Moicano will step into the octagon at UFC Paris, this Saturday (28), with the mission of expanding his positive streak and, who knows, climbing a few more steps in the lightweight rankings, where he occupies 11th position.

At the event’s official weigh-in, the Brazilian, who will be doing his second UFC main event in his career, weighed 70.7 kg on the scale.

The mark was the same as that recorded by the Brazilian’s opponent, Saint Denis, when he took to the weigh-in stage. The Frenchman, who will fight at home and with the support of the fans, is looking to recover after being defeated by Dustin Poirier in March. The setback ended a five-game winning streak for ‘God of War’ and halted his rise in the division’s rankings.

Brazilians in weight

In addition to Renato Moicano, Brazil will be represented at UFC Paris by three other fighters.

On the main card of the show, featherweights (66 kg) Joanderson ‘Tubarão’ and Gabriel ‘Fly’ will face Frenchmen William Gomis and Morgan Charriere, respectively. In the preliminary portion of the event, the Brazilian based in Portugal Jacqueline Cavalcanti will face off against Nora Cornolle, also a local athlete.

At this Friday’s weigh-in, all members of the ‘Brazilian Squadron’ were within the weight limit for their categories. ‘Tubarão’ scored 66.2 kg – a mark identical to that of his opponent and, interestingly, so did ‘Fly’ and his respective opponent. In turn, Jacqueline weighed 61.2 kg – around 500 grams below the mark set on the scale by her opponent.

Argentine fault

The only athlete not to make weight this Friday morning, Ailin Perez caused concern when she appeared on stage at the official UFC Paris weigh-in.

Visibly shaken by the exhausting weight cut, the Argentine fighter began to experience tremors when stepping on the scale, where she weighed 61.9 kg – more than 200 grams more than allowed in the bantamweight division (61 kg).

However, despite the failure on the scale and concerns about her health, Ailin was released to compete this Saturday, in a fight against Daria Zheleznyakova, on the preliminary card of the show. A 20% fine on the South American fighter’s purse was applied by the organization.
