Terrible series of fatal fires in Paris. Almost 24 hours after a first fire which claimed the life of a forty-year-old on rue Saint-Charles in the 15th arrondissement, the fire claimed a new victim in the same arrondissement, Place Bienvenüe during the night of Monday to Tuesday April 30. A few hours later, three people died in another violent fire on Boulevard des Italians (II arrondissement).

It was 2 a.m. this Tuesday when the firefighters were alerted to a fire in a 15th century building. A 2nd floor apartment is engulfed in flames, facing the tower and Montparnasse station. More than 60 firefighters are mobilized, from several fire stations.

20 people, evacuated, the accidental theory favored

They will not be able to resuscitate the occupant of this apartment, a sixty-year-old. A man who was also staying in this property was evacuated seriously injured and in absolute emergency to the Garches hospital (Hauts-de-Seine). Two other residents of the building, more slightly injured, were treated by emergency services.

In total, 20 people were evacuated. Around seven in the morning, most were able to return to their homes. Those on the second floor, affected by the fire, were unable to return home due to the significant release of toxic smoke during the disaster.

“An investigation into the causes of death and injuries has been entrusted to the 15th arrondissement police station,” announced the Paris prosecutor’s office. “The cause seems accidental but the investigation will tell us. The injured person’s vital prognosis is in jeopardy,” declared the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, speaking from Boulevard des Italians, where the fire claimed three victims.
