MotoGP, Jerez Test, Joan Mir (Honda/21): “the day is more positive than it seems”

After a difficult race that saw him finish twelfth at the Spanish Grand Prix, Repsol Honda’s Joan Mir found reason for hope during testing that followed on Monday at Jerez. Despite a lap time that placed him in the lower ranks with 1’37.784, far from Fabio Di Giannantonio’s 1’36.405 minutes, Mir remains optimistic about the future of his RC213V.

The day is more positive than it seems” highlighted Mir. “ We explored a new concept today and the results are promising. I think we have found the direction for future improvements. This is progress, even if the effects are not immediate.. »

The Spaniard was enthusiastic about the adjustments made to the bike, highlighting a noticeable improvement in handling. “ This new approach seems to improve the steering of the motorcycle, which allows us to gain maneuverability. Naturally, this may put us at a disadvantage in other aspects, but opportunities for improvement are substantial. »

Joan Mir: “ we test different engine configurations to further refine our steering »

Joan Mir also spoke about his experience with the motorcycle Stefan Bradl during tests in Montmelò, noting mixed feedback. “ Bradl’s bike provided some interesting feedback, but this is not the direction in which we will continue to develop my bike. We test different engine configurations to further refine our steering,” added Mir.

This feeling of progress is vital for the pilot of
Repsol Honda which, despite a season so far below expectations, sees potential for a rebound in the innovations tested. The results of these tests could well determine the trajectory of Honda for the rest of the season, offering hope not only to Mir but to the whole team looking to get back into racing in MotoGP.
