“A horrible feeling”: Luis Enrique suffered from facing Barça, “the club that gave me the most”

The love story between Luis Enrique and FC Barcelona is not yet completely over. And it will probably never end. A player for the Catalan club between 1996 and 2004, then coach between 2014 and 2017, the current coach of Saint-Germain has not forgotten those beautiful years. And when he had to return there last year, in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the heartbreak was total. However, he led his players to victory thanks to a well-controlled return match (1-4).

In an exclusive interview with Movistar +, which will air this Monday night, a week before the three-part documentary prepared by the Spanish streaming service, Luis Enrique reflected on that episode. “The match against Barça was horrible,” he assured. “Coming home against the club that gave me the most as a player and as a coach, it was a horrible feeling for me, my children and my wife. I hope I don’t play against them again this season, I can’t imagine a final against Barça.”

The documentary traces the technician’s beginnings in the capital. Entitled “No tenéis ni p*** idea” (“You have no idea”), the series will offer fans scenes from his private life and sequences at the club, in the offices or in the locker room. In images unveiled last August, we see the players being scolded by their coach, giving a big blow to bottles placed on the table, at half-time of a Champions League match. But also a tactical debrief carried out one-on-one with Kylian Mbappé after the quarter-final first leg against FC Barcelona.
