With Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama signs one of the most famous works in the world. A manga that transcends generations, more than three decades after its debut. Dragon Ball is known absolutely everywhere, it’s difficult to see this universe so dear to the hearts of millions of fans stopping one day. Dragon Ball has a host of characters. Yet only one shares the same origin story than Goku.

For over thirty years, Toriyama has been narrating the adventures of Goku and his gang. Despite the mangaka’s recent death, Dragon Ball will continue. A relief for many fans, the work having transcended the ages. It remains to be seen whether Dragon Ball will one day come to an end, or if the immortal Goku will continue to face ever more powerful threats through transformations with ever more colorful hair. For now, no one knows. But it’s difficult to see Shueisha and Toei separate from a universe as lucrative as that of Dragon Ball.
Besides Goku, whose wanderings continue despite the years, Dragon Ball strives to introduce new characters with each arc. However, the elders are not forgotten. Gohan, often relegated to the background during the majority of the various works, even returns to the forefront. Towards a possible handover between Goku and his son? A transition which could be similar to that found on the side of Masashi Kishimoto, with Boruto at the center of the intrigue while his father, Naruto, formerly the hero of his own adventures, is slowly pushed towards the exit.
But for now, Goku remains closely linked to the plot of Dragon Balland his most recent series: Dragon Ball Super. Yet only one character shares theorigin story of the Saiyan. This character is the Almighty. As you know, Goku was sent from planet Vegeta in a spaceship when he was still a baby, just before his planet was destroyed by the abominable Frieza. Origins which obviously recall those of the famous DC Superman. The Almighty, originally from the planet Namek, spent most of his life on Earth.

The Almighty was sent to Earth by his father, Katatts, who decided to send his son in a space capsule to a distant planet to protect him from the problems plaguing Namek. This planet is Earth. And after having waited for years waiting for the arrival of his parents, this young Namekian decides to become the God of the Earth, protecting this blue planet and its frail inhabitants. To avoid being affected by his inner evil, he decides to materialize it and expel it from his body. This evil takes the form of the demon Piccolo, who will then give birth to the Piccolo we know, after being killed by Goku.
Both sent to a distant planet just before the destruction of their home planet, Almighty and Goku are two beings of light who only seek to do good and protect the weak. Common origins to which Dragon Ball is never referred to, without any wink being shared by Toriyama. A coincidence more than an anticipated decision by the mangaka it seems, while fans subsequently highlighted the similarities between the origin story of the two characters. The defenders of the Earth therefore found themselves on the same planet for the same reasons, did you notice that?
