Israeli raid on southern suburbs of Beyrouthmore precisely to Dahiehwould have aimed Ibrahim Aqilone of Hezbollah’s top commanders, nicknamed “the Ghost” for his ability to operate in the shadows on September 20. Aqil, a central figure in Hezbollah’s military operations, was at the head of the al-Radwan Forcesan elite unit responsible for numerous attacks against Israel and Western interests and was now the successor to Fouad Chokor who was assassinated by an Israeli airstrike on July 30, 2024.

Born in 1962, Aqil joined Hezbollah in the 1980s, quickly distinguishing himself through his loyalty and strategic skills. He notably participated in the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, overseeing several crucial military operations. Aqil is also involved in international attacksincluding the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992which killed 29 people and injured more than 200.

The raid that allegedly targeted him Dahieh marks an escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The attack caused extensive damage to a residential area, injuring several people, including children. If confirmed, his death would represent a major blow to the Shiite organization.
