      New York mayor faces justice for corruption

      New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing a series of charges relating to alleged fraud and corruption. They were filed Thursday morning by the Manhattan federal prosecutor.

      That’s the amount Eric Adams allegedly received in illegal foreign contributions to his election campaigns, according to the indictment. He also allegedly accepted undue advantages, such as trips and stays in luxury hotels. In exchange, he would have put pressure on the New York Fire Department to speed up the opening of a consular building for Turkey, despite security problems.

      At a press briefing, the Democratic mayor proclaimed his innocence and said he was eager to defend himself. He intends to stay in office and even plans to run again in the New York municipal elections next year. Democratic federal representatives, who fear that this story will have repercussions in the presidential election in November, are calling for his resignation.
