We talked about it a lot a few days ago, notably in these columns: after a football match which took place in Ittre in mid-April, two children found fireworks on an adjoining field, which they have manipulated. Unfortunately, an accident happened and they were badly burned. At the Nivelles municipal council, Monday evening, Rudy Wybo (PluS) returned to this tragedy which occurred in a neighboring commune to ask if precautions were taken in dry land.

“At home, often, to celebrate a victory, we also set off fireworks, indicated the socialist advisor. I have no doubt that it is done with caution and with the usual precautions. But since there are regulations for fireworks at the end of the year, I would like to know if we also need to obtain authorization from the City. And what could happen if something goes wrong.”

In responding to this question, Sports Alderman Germain Dalne (MR) said he shared Rudy Wybo’s concern, less for the authorization requests than for the dangers that the use of pyrotechnic devices can actually generate. Moreover, the day after the accident which took place in Ittre, he wrote to the sports clubs which could be affected by these practices.

Germain Dalne clarified before the municipal council that he had obtained a very rapid response from the Nivelles football club where, indeed, fireworks are sometimes used. Officials specified that when this is the case, these fires are not fired on the ground but on a plot at the rear, and a security perimeter is systematically set up.

When pyrotechnic devices are used, it is adequately supervised, the person in charge having exercised the function of firefighter. Precautions are therefore put in place to avoid any accident.

“But we all know that zero risk does not exist, and we have raised awareness among the clubs, further clarified the Sports alderman. I can confirm that the Ittre accident caught our attention and that we reacted quickly. The responses obtained show that our clubs seem well aware of the situation, and of the need to take precautions.”
