New electric crossover unveiled early

A new electric SUV from Toyota is about to make its debut, first in the Chinese market. The Toyota bZ3C was leaked a few days ago. Its design is familiar to us. Developed in collaboration with BYD, the vehicle resembles the Toyota Prius.

Toyota bZ3C: an electric Prius?

Toyota is struggling to get into the electric market. While the brand has unveiled many concepts, few production models actually see the light of day. Except in China, where the firm is finally accelerating with the bZ3C, a model that will soon be marketed. This vehicle was designed by BYD Toyota EV Technology, a joint venture created in 2020 to explore the development of electric vehicles and batteries. FAW-Toyota also participated in the design process.

There is no doubt that the Prius has largely inspired this small SUV. The lines are almost identical and the manufacturer seems to fully assume this strategy. This electric model was designed to appeal to Generation Z buyers. At the same time, the Tokyo firm is also developing the bZ3X. A model more intended for families. These two electric vehicles were specifically designed for the Chinese market.

Japanese firm accelerates in China

Documents published a few days ago by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology allow us to learn a little more about the small SUV. The bZ3C will be equipped with an LFP battery manufactured by BYD Wuwei Fudi Battery. The 268 hp electric powertrain also comes from the factories of the Chinese BYD. Toyota will offer optional 18- or 21-inch wheels, a black rear spoiler and a radar on the front windshield.

At 4,780 mm long, 1,866 mm wide and 1,510 mm high, Toyota’s new electric crossover is roughly the size of Tesla’s Model Y. Alongside the bZ4X and bZ3, the bZ3c completes the Japanese brand’s range. According to CarNewsChinaproduction is expected to begin at FAW-Toyota’s Tianjin plant by the end of 2024.

A vehicle with a similar silhouette should then arrive here, the brand having shown in Europe a concept with a similar look.
