Available on Disney+, the series “Shogun” made history at the 2024 Emmy Awards by winning nearly 18 trophies.

The Emmy Awards, which honor the best television programs and their best actors and actresses, took place on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Elizabeth Debicki was named Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the final season of The Crown.

The series The Bearmeanwhile, collected eleven trophies, largely for its casting. While in the Best Miniseries or Anthology category, reserved for shows of a single season, It is My little reindeer who won.

This Netflix series tells the true story ofLondon bartender harassed by woman suffering from psychiatric disorders. The author, Richard Gadd, was voted Best Actor in the category. Jessica Gunning, who plays his on-screen stalker, received the award for Best Supporting Actress.

However, one series, in particular, swept the board at the 2024 Emmy Awards. It was Shogun, who won 18 trophies out of 25 nominationsincluding the coveted award for Best Drama Series.

Among other distinctions, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively for their outstanding performances. A first for a non-English series ! MCE tells you more.

'Shogun' Success at 2024 Emmy Awards

As a reminder, Shogun is an adaptation of the novel by James Clavell. It tells the arrival of a European navigator in Japan in the 17th century and his immersion in samurai culture.

The series also shone in the technical categorieswinning awards for its direction, art direction and screenplay at the Emmy Awards. The quality of the battle scenes, traditional costumes and immersive storytelling were particularly praised by critics, cementing the position of Shogun as an essential work of the year 2024.

With these 18 trophies, Shogun exceeds the record previously set by Game of Throneswhich held the title of the most awarded series in a single season with 12 Emmy Awards. The Disney+ series has managed to assert itself against strong competitors such as The Crown, The Morning Show And Fallout.

Shogun has already been renewed for two more seasonspromising to continue exploring the complexities of Japanese culture and the relationships between samurai and foreigners.

The series' success at the Emmy Awards confirms that American audiences can now praise a foreign-language series. This could therefore pave the way for more non-English-language series on the global market…
