The Minister Delegate for Communities and Rural Affairs came third in her constituency of Haute-Garonne, far behind the PS and the RN. However, she chose to remain, opposing the choice “to vote RN or LFI”. The PS leader denounced a “shameful” decision.

The Minister Delegate for Communities and Rural Affairs, Dominique Faure, who came 3rd in the 10th constituency of Haute-Garonne, beaten by the PS and the RN, is staying in the second round, she announced to AFP on Monday 1 July.

In this rural territory which extends from the commercial areas of eastern Toulouse to the agricultural region of Lauragais, the deputy of the presidential majority narrowly won in the second round in 2022, totaling 200 votes more than her opponent from Générations, invested by Nupes.

Far behind the NFP

At the end of the first round, the socialist Jacques Oberti, for the New Popular Front, came clearly in the lead with 36.24% of the votes, ahead of the RN candidate Caroline Falgas-Colomina (30.37%) and the outgoing MP (28.99%), from the Radical Party.

Legislative elections: the incredible story of a lightning campaign

“I have 22,800 voters who voted for it and I can’t see how I could give them the only choice of voting RN or LFI,” argued the minister, considering that the PS Jacques Oberti “is linked by an alliance with LFI.”

“I must go to the end and try to convince that this Republican arc that I represent is for the 10th district, and by far, the best choice,” added Dominique Faure, who considers himself a “ outsider”. “But the match is not over,” emphasizes this former tennis champion.

“Shameful” for Olivier Faure

In response, the head of the PS, Olivier Faure, castigated a “shameful” act. “Faced with the threat of full powers to the RN, a minister chooses to stay in office even though she came 3rd,” he wrote on X.

In a comparable balance of power in the 6th constituency of Haute Garonne, outgoing MP Renaissance Monique Iborra is withdrawing. At 79, she was seeking a 5th term, after winning in 2022 by only 8 votes, against her socialist opponent.

Her 3rd place on Sunday (29.60%), behind the socialist Arnaud Simion (34.03%) and the RN Nadine Demange-Fierlej (30.92%) convinced the former socialist to throw in the towel, without however giving any voting instructions.

In the 9th constituency of Haute-Garonne, the presidential majority candidate Florian Delrieu, 3rd with 22.36% of the vote, far behind the outgoing environmentalist MP Christine Arrighi (47.53%) and two points behind the RN representative, Caroline Beout (24.89%), announced his decision to remain.
