The storms in Baden-Württemberg during the European Championship match between Germany and Denmark were less severe than expected. The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned of hurricane-force gusts, hail, heavy rain and possible tornadoes for Saturday evening, especially in the west. According to the DWD meteorologists, the weather will improve on Sunday – but there will still be rain, stormy gusts and isolated thunderstorms.

Better weather on Sunday – but cooler

According to the report, it will be very cloudy in the morning and during the day, with occasional rain and showers. Thunderstorms are possible until midday, especially in the east.

For the western areas of the Black Forest, the weather service predicted heavy rain lasting several hours with amounts of between 20 and 30 litres per square metre. It will be significantly cooler: the maximum temperatures will be between 18 degrees and 24 degrees, according to the DWD. There could also be strong to stormy gusts. Storm gusts are also possible on the Black Forest peaks and severe storm gusts on the Feldberg.

During the night into Monday it will remain cloudy and occasionally rainy. It will look similar on Monday: According to the DWD, rain or showers and isolated thunderstorms are still possible at the start of the week. The maximum temperatures will be between 17 and 22 degrees.

Due to severe weather warnings from the German Weather Service, public viewing of the European Football Championship was cancelled on Saturday evening in at least two cities in Baden-Württemberg – first in Freudenstadt in the west of the country. A short time later, a public viewing was also cancelled in Bad-Säckingen in the Waldshut-Tiengen district due to the weather.
