19-year-old Bronny collapsed in July of last year due to cardiac arrest and was taken to the hospital. A few days later he was allowed to leave the hospital again; a congenital heart defect was diagnosed at the time. James Junior returned to college basketball in December, but did not have a particularly good season.

It was therefore unclear whether the young James would be selected at all. The junior will therefore have to first recommend himself for a final place in the Lakers squad.

Meanwhile, after Tristan da Silva, Ludwigsburg basketball player Ariel Hukporti has also made the leap into the NBA. With the 58th and last pick of the second round of the draft, the New York Knicks secured the services of the 2.13 meter tall professional on Friday night. The 22-year-old center, born in Stralsund in 2002, moved to Ludwigsburg in the spring. Another German also plays for the Knicks: Isaiah Hartenstein.

Munich-born Tristan da Silva was selected in the first round by the Orlando Magic and will play in a team with German basketball world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner.

During the draft, teams secure the rights to young players one by one, but can also give up their positions or transfer rights to other teams as part of trade deals.
