Australian Open > John McEnroe, on Monfils' victory against Fritz: “I can't believe Gaël is playing like this so late in his career. He is one of the three most talented players to have never won a Grand Slam with Kyrgios and Zverev”

Consultant for Eurosport throughout the fortnight of the Australian Open, John McEnroe was very enthusiastic following Gaël Monfils' magnificent victory against Taylor Fritz this Saturday in the third round.

“He’s in a great period. He won Auckland, it's the best tennis I've seen him play in a long time. His tactics were brilliant. This guy is incredible. He served much better than Fritz and I didn't think that would be the case. He had a great strategy: keep Fritz in an awkward position by changing pace and attacking when necessary. It was fantastic. I can't believe Gaël is playing like this so late in his career. But as I said before, he is one of the three most talented players to never win a Grand Slam along with Kyrgios and Zverev. He's playing thinking he has a chance, I can't believe he's playing like this, well, this late. »
