Maine lighthouses named to environmental watch list

Threats from climate change have landed Maine’s iconic lighthouses on an international watchlist.

The World Monument Fund says the state’s 66 lighthouses face major challenges due to climate change.

In 2024, a pair of powerful storms caused around $5.5 million in damage at Maine lighthouses.

The head of the American Lighthouse Foundation hopes this list will make people more aware of the work needed to make them more resilient.
