Ourense, Jan 14 (EFE).- Carlos Corberán, coach of Valencia, insisted tonight that “the main objective” of his team is in LaLiga, but he also made it clear that they are not going to “give away” the Copa del Rey, a competition that excites him.
“Our priority does not change because we know the objective we have, but we are not going to give away the Cup, it is a competition that I respect a lot, because of the history of the club, because of the history of the competition and out of respect for all our fans,” he said in news conference.
“Today it was an honor to see all the Valencia fans who have come here, and that speaks of the greatness in capital letters of the club we represent. That is a pride and a responsibility, that is why we have to compete every game,” he added.
The new Valencian coach highlighted “the commitment” of his team to overcome an Ourense team that created difficulties, especially in the first half.
“I have seen a committed team, with better stretches and others in which they had to suffer. I am very sure that after this match we will be more prepared when we face rivals who pose something similar to Ourense, which made us have a very uncomfortable first half. Then in the second half we found better solutions, in addition to the goals,” he analyzed.
Corberán defended Hugo Guillamón – “I see a committed player, who tries to recover his best version like everyone else, but he with a very great commitment” – and was pleased with the goal by Nigerian Sadiq Umar because “he has shown that he lives close to the goal, He has done an individual action by scoring an important goal, and that goal surely gives him confidence to continue scoring many more.”
“I have not perceived any mental block in Sadiq, I do not know if it existed or not. “I have seen a player with a lot of desire, very hungry, with a lot of desire to recover his best version, with a lot of desire to score goals and contribute to the game,” he explained.
Finally, he congratulated Ourense because, in his opinion, they have done “a very decent job” in the competition, and he wished them “the best of luck” for the remainder of the season. EFE
